About Us

The Portly Gentleman was started as a result of my husband needing large size clothes. I found it really hard to find him nice dress shirts and pants for work. When I did find a retailer that stocked the sizes I found that they always sold out of the size I needed, the day before I arrived. It was easy to find Hawaiian shirts but if you wanted a nice pair of dress shorts - GOOD LUCK. It was depressing and a real stress.

After convincing my husband that it was a great idea to start the shop we then had to come up with the name. A few dinners with friends, a few BBQs and of course - a few beverages and The Portly Gentleman was born. Eight months of research and loads of support from the likes of Jimmy Stuart, Callan Shirts Deep Blue (and the bank manager) and here we are today.
